3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they are.
If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
